·        While we were in house to do the first to scene, we made sure the house everyone knew what they were meant to do, to prevent individuals from wondering around the house.

·         Since we were using an electrical light we checked if they were no electrical wires coming out from the electrical cable, to prevent anyone from being from getting an electrical shock.

 

Final Story Boards

 

These are the final story boards to our 2 minutes opening of a thriller film, showing each scene with a specific camera shot. 

 

Film Plot (Todorov Theory)

The two minute to our film will begin with a series of short, montage shots showing key information about the events leading up to the scene and an idea of Hiro's family background who is protagonist. The shots show him paying respect and tribute to his dead parents and grabbing traditional & western weapons for his pursuit to avenge their deaths. The following shots show Hiro venturing towards his parents murdered Mr. Smith for revenge. Knowing that Mr. Smith is guarded, Hiro proceeds to slaughter some his henchman in order to reach him. Upon first contact with Mr. Smith he notices a resemblance and finds out they are related by family but not fully. Even though he has this knowledge of Mr. Smith, he continues his act of revenge and tries to attack Mr. Smith. The next few shots show a brief fight sequence between the two brothers and Mr. Smiths physical superiority over Hiro, leading to his inevitable downfall. The scene ends on a tilted shot showing Mr. Smith walking away from the scene, leaving Hiro broken on the ground and on the verge of passing out. Scene finishes and title takes the screen, followed by credits of cast and crew. This opening scene of our film only shows the equilibrium and start of the disequilibrium in relation to Todorov's narrative theory.

If the film was to continue beyond the three minute limit and into a full length film it would show Hiros struggle against Mr. Smith and his attempts to gain the satisfaction of revenge or some sort of solace. The full length film would show Hiro going through disequilibrium, being beaten down by his rival and left for dead. Hiros recognition of the problem he's facing and what he has to do. His journey to avenge his parents death at the hands of the Merci-less Mr. Smith. The new equilibrium would consist of Hiro having his revenge against Mr. Smith and returning to lead a peaceful life some sort.

Role: Protagonist

Acted by: Ryan Brand
Clothing: Black hoodie, black jeans, black boots, black half face mask.
Representations: His dark clothing represents an anti-hero role and his anti-social nature. The clothing he wears is not typical for a middle-class citezen as it is less formal. One of the shots is an extreme close-up of Hiro's eyes which shows the lifelessness and lack of emotion the character has. The weapons he uses in the film also represents and mix of western and traditional culture in the modern age.


Name: Mr. 'Danny' Smith
Role: Villian
Gender: Male
Acted by: Black gas mask, white shirt, black waistcoat, red tie, black skinny trousers/jeans, black boots, black trench coat.
Representations: The black gas mask can connote him hiding a burn on his face or hiding away from society. He wears smart clothes which conflicts with where he lives because working class citizens aren't portrayed as intelligent and fashionable. With Mr. Smith's henchman wearing more working class style clothes like tracksuit bottoms and hoodies Mr. Smith is made to look like a leader of the broken group by his clothes being more formal.

Thriller Conventions

Mise en Scene
The Mise En Scene mirrors the protagonists troubles. It is exceptionally important in a thriller and needs to be used appropriately. For example if the character is upset put them in a depressive surrounding lights, props, slow beat music and scene . Usually thrillers contain a lot of unhappy scenes so therefore the film makers use a lot of dark and dull lights in a dark and dull environment sewers, tube station
Protagonist
A protagonist who is systematically over powered. All thrillers have a protagonist against an antagonist at some point in the thriller both characters will meet and that is where the intense moments of the film begin. For example fights, chases, arguments. The plot usually build towards a climax.

Thrillers will create a sense of suspense, tension and uncertainty. They will do this by using different lighting, music, shot types etc… Within a thriller there are many conventions which have to be used as much as possible to make the thriller effect work properly.

Sound and Editiing
In many thriller film they use non-diegetic sounds through out the film however diegetic sounds and music are used so suspense and tension is raised among the audience. Most thriller films will play fast orchestra music while there is a chase in the film so the audience will feel the intense moment the convention is putting across. The way a film is edited can be convention since most films make the transitions fast to the next scene showing urgency of the matter or how important that certain scene will be.

CLOSE UP SHOT

Close up shots are used to show an object in great detail so it blurs the background around the image. In films such as the thriller genre it is used to get close to the actors so that the audience feel almost involved in what is happening, showing the emotions of the actors at the same time. Like in this scene in the film Se7en after D.t Mills's wife has been murdered we can see his emotions.





EXTREME LONG SHOT

This  shot shows the whole setting from a distance, it could be used to show a full scene or an actors full body.

MEDIUM SHOT

A medium shots are usually from the targets head down to his or her torso. This type of shot is often used in magazines







LOW ANGLED SHOT

This shot makes the characters involved appear in charge and intimidating as they are looking down on the audience.


TWO SHOT



Two shots are mostly used in TV dramas were it shows friends side by side. It can also be used to show relationships. However the main purpose of this shot is for the audience to see what sort of relationship the characters have between them.




POINT OF VIEW ( POV )
This shows the view point of an actor. When this shot is used in films you can usually see the actors feet or hands, so the audience can straight away identify what sort of shot it is. In films this shot is used to show someone's eyesight as blurry, if they are becoming incurious.


OVER THE SHOULDER

This shot is taken from behind a subject to see someone else. It is sometimes used in dramas to show someone's facial expression and realism. It is more commonly used for when two people are having a conversation.

Location

Our filming locations will include the following:

• A camera shot of Oakwood street ( Raynes Park )
• Second Scene in a house ( Raynes  Park )

The rest of film will be shot near malden where the dark woods setting and some at Raynes Park station where we will need the busy atmosphere. We are aslo going to take images of the locations to use in the planning then analyse them to see where exactly would be the pefect spot to film our thriller.

Lighting Research ( Example )

Yellow is a bright colour which connotates sunshine and happiness giving the events, however in thriller films such as The Dark Knight yellow lighting brights up the darkness, making the events unclear and making the audience fear what will happen. The contrast of the colour yellow interestingly tricks the audience and gives two contrasting connotations.

 

 

 

 

 

Lighting

The lighting in several conventional thriller films is dark or has a blue tint, we are going to use this convention as these dark colours represent the mystery and tense events that usually occur in these types of films, setting the target audience on the edge. Since most thriller films tend to have this dark lighting with a blue tinted effect, we are going to use the blue effect lighting to represent coldness which gives a negative feeling while It helps to build tension the same way the dark lighting will do.

Graphic Intro ( Production Name )

This is the screenshot of the graprhic intro for our film company. We went with four³ or fourcubed as there are four members working in the group and we have our boxs or cubes open, by that this means that we are letting the ideas flow or even thinking outside the our box. We choose the background because it is dark and grungy and the chose of colours were bright and colourful because we want to change the conventions of the dark films with our own colours.

Synopsis

Amnesty is about a Protagonist's who see's his  parents dead and when he finds out who killed his mother and father he begins to hunt the murderers down. As a one man army with only two weapons representing his deceased mother and father, he takes out the 2 henchmen and then takes out the 3rd one but is stopped by the final guard is left for dead so close to killing his parents murderer.
